Do you know how many calories you need?

We’ve all experienced those times walking out of the gym feeling like you could have gotten more out of your workout. How does it happen? You think about your workout all day long and visualize being in the gym exercising with good form and focus. You are determined to get results! You take your pre-workout supplement and have a plan to take a recovery supplement, like ARM. Yet you walk out of the gym feeling like it just didn’t work.
You’re not alone. The reality is it is difficult to maintain energy levels that are required to consistently exercise. No matter how badly you want it mentally, physically your body simply needs the fuel no different than your vehicle needs gasoline. It is a huge reward walking out of the gym feeling like you have just accomplished a lot. Your body is releasing endorphins and you feel leaner and healthier and stronger and you drink your ARM recovery knowing you are going to be building new muscle. There is a price to pay to earn that feeling that goes beyond taking a supplement.
That price to pay is good nutrition. If you do not know how many calories your body is burning daily and if you don’t understand how many calories you’re eating and how it relates to your energy levels, please come in the store and meet with your Certified Fitness Nutrition Coach. It is one thing to know a ballpark of what that number is and it’s another aspect of your challenge to take specific steps of preparation accordingly to your own individual needs. You need to know how many calories you are burning and how many you are eating per day!
If you are not tracking what you’re eating daily, in other words if you do not know and work on your macros, it is likely you have days where you over eat and then days where you under eat. Imagine the confusion your body feels at times! All your body is trying to do is survive and not be sick, so placing the strain of exercise on it means you need to eat even better and provide fuel even more carefully. Many people also under eat most days until about 5pm, then because blood sugar levels get so low by that point then the sugar cravings take over and you fall into the trap of overeating at night.

It is also important to know what your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is. This is the number of calories you burn at rest. If that number is, say, 1600 calories and you are not even eating 1300 calories, then exercising with consistent energy is going to be difficult, regardless of what supplement you use. On the other hand, if the number of calories you are eating relates closer to your activity level and BMR, and you add a quality supplement, it can make a world of difference in your workouts and energy levels throughout the day.
